Wichita Falls Reptile Rescue

Relocation, Rehabilitation, Release, and Adoption

Read Carefully and Completely. If you contact us with questions which are answered on this page, we will not reply. We do not have time to respond if you don't have the time to read...

If you wish to be considered for adoption of an animal appearing on our website, please read the rules below first, then submit your information to the email address provided below and we will send an adoption application to you. Keep in mind, not all of the animals appearing on our site are up for adoption at this time, and some may never be in a position to be adopted out. We take this on a case by case basis. Filling out an application does not guarantee you will be approved.

Please do not include your life story in the email. Save the information for the adoption application. That is what we go by.

These animals have already been through enough in many cases, so to ensure that they get the best home possible, we inquire specifically about your experience with reptiles. For large lizards ( Iguana, Monitor, Dragon ), or Turtles and Tortoises, we require previous reptile experience, and may require a home visit to make sure you have a suitable habitat. We may also require an adoption fee on turtles & larger lizards in order to recover some of the cost of caring for them. In most cases this fee may be between $25-$40 ( $25 turtle/tortoise-up to $40 for large lizard ). For diurnal species you must be able to prove that you have adequate UVB lighting, or an outdoor habitat. No exceptions. These rules are in place to make sure they are going to quality homes where they will be cared for properly, and that nobody is using us a cheap pet store.

We do not adopt as pets for children. Under 21 need not apply. We are looking for mature stable homes only.

Military Personnel - Only permanent party above rank E-5 will be considered. No trainees or TDY.

We prefer to adopt locally, and will not ship turtles, large lizards, etc. We will only ship smaller species by overnight courier at your expense, if our criteria are met and your application is approved. Other animals will require pickup, or we can deliver locally. For out of town, we may be willing to drive a reasonable distance to meet you if you agree to a donation for our expenses.

* Horned Lizards, when up for adoption, will only be available for adoption to permitted keepers where applicable, or to capable previous Horned Lizard keepers where allowed on unrestricted species ( p. platyrhinos, modestum, solare ). ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS!!! If you do not hold appropriate wildlife dept. permits, and/or do not have several years successful previous captive experience with Horned Lizards, that we can verify ( this does not mean you had one as a kid ), or we don't already know you personally...don't even ask. Sorry, we know everyone wants a "Horny Toad", but not everyone can have a "Horny Toad". If you contact asking anyway or asking where to buy one, we will not reply. We highly regulate who we adopt these to, and rarely have one available for adoption anyway.

Thank You,

WFRR
